POSITION STATEMENT
Mission and Ministry work at Georgian Court University supports community resiliency by intentionally fostering theological inclusion. This is carried out in accordance with its mission statement and the Sisters of Mercy's outstanding commitments to interfaith dialogue. Uncommon hospitality serves as a guiding principle established for the good of all who participate.
VISION STATEMENT
A community grounded in the Sacred Scriptures, expressed through soulful worship and a sustained commitment to social concerns, fosters resiliency and advances transformative change.
INSPIRATION
Mercy FX upholds the exemplary example of the Venerable Catherine McAuley of Dublin, Ireland. Her life reflects the teachings of Jesus Christ in Matthew 25:31-46, where acts of compassion reveal depth of faithful discipleship. The Corporal Works of Mercy, illuminated in these words, underscore the importance of living out an indwelling faith in Christ. Such faithful actions foster outcomes that affirmatively impact others.
SCRIPTURAL GUIDANCE
"Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen" (Hebrews 11:1).
God’s gift of faith, made possible through Jesus Christ, enables human response to divine grace. Grace precedes and accompanies the free will participation of believers in the Christian ordinances and, for many respective faith-based traditions, the reception of the sacraments. Participants are encouraged to prayerfully deepen their faith in ways that can also align with God’s grace within their local church communities. Faith in Jesus Christ is first received and formed within the human heart and mind.
"You also were included in Christ when you heard the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation. When you believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit" (Ephesians 1:13).
Jesus Christ bears witness to saving biblical truths in the lives of those who are receptive to Him. The Holy Spirit marks believers with the seal of salvation, affirming God’s work within the human soul. This understanding is grounded in apostolic Christian theology.
A Christian believer’s response to indwelling faith in Christ is expressed through action rooted in the saving work of Jesus on the cross. As such, Fresh Expressions of Mercy, grounded in faith, emerge as worshipful and proactive responses to the love of Jesus Christ, the Son of God. God's mercy catalyzes spiritual responses to the inner workings of God.
Mercy Promotes Resiliency
The Messiah said: "For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, a stranger and you welcomed me, naked and you clothed me, and you cared for me, in prison and you visited me" (Matthew 25:35-36).
